Animate Earth
The Dutch poet Weremeus Bruning wrote a poem that he named: De Garden. He describes how one morning he got up very early and saw the grasses in full bloom; in such a special light. And, he said, it was as if someone had just left that place and you could sense that a deep conversation had taken place. There was a deep silence, like after someone has spoken. Like an angel had just passed by. All the life in that sacred place was wrapped in a cosmic prayer.

Does this experience speak to you? From time to time we might all have such moments. At this side of the world we experience the stunning beauty of all the blossoms and varieties of new shoots and green leaves. Moments of coming home, of great feeling and wonder.
Our body and our soul know about our deepest memories of experiencing oneness with nature. Our cells store all our memories, like a computer. The smell of grass, of fresh fruits, a sunset, a birdsong can bring us back to moments we did not even know they were still in our memory.
It is such a consolation, that even if we have not experienced nature or Earth in such a conscious way, our cells remember and can lead us home! Even more outspoken still; they can roar in us as untamable longing for our Mother Earth. She will never give up calling us and taking us in again. That is good news in a time that so many of us have forgotten who we are: sons or daughters of our Mother.
Might be you remember…now…and it is as if the angel just passed by..When did it happen to you? Where were you?
Than the trees, the birds in the sky above us, the singing water in the river have become an opening to a world, as real as all that we can see and touch.
The healing embrace of a Creative Love from the Beginning. We have come home in the Mystery that is the source of all Oneness! Some of us call this God!

Tonight I hear the breeze flow through the leaves of the Old Red Oak so quiet the mood of mystery pervades this autumn evening all things commune with each other while the river flows in gracious ripples on its way to the distant sea. Thomas Berry September 1976 |
